Tonale models equipped with the 1.5-litre mild-hybrid engine are front-wheel drive. Considering they're mainly used for on-road driving, most buyers won't miss four-wheel drive and will find they get better economy and performance in the real world. If you live somewhere that experiences poor winter weather, consider fitting a set of winter tyres during the colder seasons, which are a much more effective way to ensure all-weather grip and traction.
Upgrading to the plug-in-hybrid Tonale adds an electric motor to the rear axle, giving the car four-wheel drive.
