Kia xCeed FAQs
Kia makes the xCeed in one version only – a five-door SUV with a hatchback boot lid. It’s closely related to the Ceed hatchback, which loses the SUV styling and a little interior space, but is still an accomplished all-round family hatchback.
If you’re considering the Kia xCeed, you might want to cross shop it against the Kia Niro or slightly larger Kia Sportage. There’s also the Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Bayon from Kia’s partner brand or, looking further afield, there’s also strong competition from the Ford Puma, Mazda CX-30, Toyota C-HR and Volkswagen T-Roc.
The xCeed is slightly less than 4.4 metres in length. That’s exactly the same length as the Mazda CX-30 and a negligible 5mm longer than the Toyota C-HR.
Compared to the regular Ceed hatchback, the xCeed gains a small amount of extra interior space, translating into a little more legroom for rear passengers. Four adults will fit in reasonable comfort, but seating five will see rear passengers bump elbows and fighting over foot room. The boot also gains a few extra litres over the Ceed, and is large enough for a couple of large suitcases, with a usefully square opening.
Kia includes several engine options for the xCeed including petrol, diesel, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. The petrols will suit most buyers but long-range drivers might want to consider the diesel, while the PHEV version will work well if you do a lot of stop-start urban driving.
The Kia xCeed gives you the long warranty, economical engines and practicality of the standard Ceed, but with a hit of trendy SUV styling. It's reliable, comfortable and easy to drive so, yes, the Kia xCeed is a good car if that all sounds good to you.
Being so heavily based on the Ceed, all xCeed models are front-wheel drive. If you want a Kia 4x4, there are all-wheel-drive versions of the Sportage available.
Kia would like you to think of the xCeed as an SUV, but it won't give you the high ride height you get in a Sportage. It has SUV styling, so you could call it an SUV or a crossover without many people batting an eyelid.
